Add-on week is fast approaching at ChicStudios! During these next couple days, our students learn everything from Fashion + Runway makeup and TV + Music Video business. For Fashion + Runway, they have to learn how to execute the designers’ vision all while making sure each look is cohesive and runway ready. Here are the top makeup trends that we noticed on the runway this season!
Prabal Gurung played with the theme of their collection — female power, to create strong beauty looks. Like the clothing, the makeup was striking as the models walked down the runway.
Plenty of Pigment
Splashes of color were displayed not only on the clothes, but on the models’ faces. Designer houses like Maison Margiela and Fashion East/Matty Bovan (pictured below) used every color in a palette to create expressive looks. Each look is personalized to the model making them unique and distinguishable.

Re-Imagined Black Eyeliner
The usual cat eye was transformed for the runway! For most designers, they chose to smoke them out– creating a very dramatic look which helped bring attention to the models’ eyes, like Libertine (pictured here).
Cherry Red and Berry Lips
The FW17 season wouldn’t be complete without these lip colors. Philipp Plein paired his intense smokey eyes with a cherry red lip — the perfect combination for a sultry look. Public School (pictured) kept their models’ looks very natural in the eyes and brows but added a subtle stain to the lips for color.
Its fun to play around with new colors during the Summer time and we wanted to showcase a couple of new products from some of our favorite brands for you to try!

Brushes have different functions
Brushes can help you in a multitude in ways! They help provide precision and give you control for creating different effects while also allowing for you to blend your looks evenly.
Brushes should always be cleaned after use Not only for sanitary reasons but cleaning your brushes can reduce your chance of breakouts and will help your brushes to last longer!
Know the difference between brushes Its important to understand that there are two different kinds of brushes, synthetic and natural. Synthetic are soft and smooth and are used for cream applications while natural brushes feel rougher and typically are used for powder applications.
The road to becoming a successful Makeup Artist is filled with lots of passion, hard work and dedication. One of our goals at CHICSTUDIOS School of Makeup is equipping our students with the tools and knowledge to make that journey a bit easier. Here are a few tips from our CHIC staff that we wanted to share with everyone who is an aspiring or established artist!
1. STAY ON TOP OF YOUR MAKEUP KIT:
It’s very important to always be on top of your makeup kit. It’s very easy to let months, even a year go by without restocking it. Keep an inventory of what you you have and when you reorder stuff. –JONNY POLIZZI, LEAD INSTRUCTOR
2. STAY IN CONTACT WITH CLIENTELE:
“Make sure that you have complete contact information for all of your clients! Email them monthly with any news and updates for your personal business.” –JONNY POLIZZI, LEAD INSTRUCTOR
3. RESEARCH PRODUCTS:
“Make sure that you really know the formulations of the products you are using in your kit. Certain chemical mixtures can breakdown products, so you want to be familiar with how to properly mix your products before going into a professional setting.” –JONNY POLIZZI, LEAD INSTRUCTOR
Self promotion, especially in social media, is key — but be sure your social media is reflective of your personal achievements. A client that runs across your Instagram and sees photos of food or your bikini summer days could be turned off. The solution — have a separate, private page for your friends, and a work page for your budding career!
We just welcomed our newest round of students at CHICSTUDIOS NYC School of Makeup. It’s always inspiring to see fresh new faces, passionate about the art of makeup. Here’s a sneak peek into what’s been going on in the classroom:
As we move into warmer temperatures and more colorful palettes…it’s important to also take care of your cosmetics arsenal. Here are a few tips to help you clean out your makeup bag:
1. Separate your products.
Whether or not we like to admit it, bacteria loves to thrive on our faces, and one of the easiest ways to keep germs from spreading is to keep your brushes, face makeup, eye makeup and lipsticks/glosses all separate.
2. Don’t underestimate the power of rubbing alcohol.
Cleansing products are essential, but one of the simplest methods to clean products is with a bit of rubbing alcohol (and gauze pads). Dip lipsticks right into alcohol and lightly pat dry with gauze pads.
3. Clean out your pumps.
Flush bacteria out of pumps by running alcohol and warm water through until clear.
4. Know when to say good-bye.
If pressed powders, shadows or bronzers show any sign of oil markation…toss them. Consult with your beauty professional, but make sure to also throw away old mascaras and eyeliners every three months at least.
