NYFW SHOWS WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO!

New York Fashion Week is officially upon us! The snow and cold won’t be stopping fashionistas from flocking to the city to indulge in beautiful runway shows and extravagant fêtes. Here are the top designers we will especially be keeping an eye on.

MONIQUE LHUILLIER

MONIQUE

A sketch from the upcoming collection

The inspiration for Fall 2014 is “graphic architectural detail and old world French Parisian couture techniques while also incorporating a dark romantic side.” Catch the show February 8th at THEATRE, 6 pm.

HERVÉ LEGER

HERVE

The inspiration behind the collection

Wild and untamed” is the inspiration behind the Hervé Leger Fall 2014 collection. We’re imagining dark, stormy colors and unconventional cuts! Catch the show February 8th at THEATRE, 2 pm.

MARA HOFFMAN

MARA

For this designer, life is a journey! Mara has said she “drew inspiration from Northern Africa and all of the textiles, jewelry, and elements of nature picked up along the way.” Catch the show February 8th at SALON, 3 pm.

REEM ACRA

REEM

Although we are unsure of the inspiration behind the latest collection, we are still drooling over Reem Acra S/S 14 creations, inspired by Studio 54 and disco glamour. We’re holding our breath for what will walk down the runway for Fall 2014! Catch the show February 10th at SALON, 6 pm.

REBECCA MINKOFF

It seems Rebecca Minkoff has a case of wanderlust. This season she found her self “inspired by our downtown-romantic muse indulging her wanderlust and spending a year abroad.” Catch the show February 7th at THEATRE, 3 pm.

A BIG THANKS TO OUR NYFW & BFW SPONSORS

We want to give a huge shoutout to Qosmedix and OCC Makeup for the Fashion Week Sponsorship at the TAB NYC shows! Thanks to the leading supplier of disposable makeup supplies and essentials, Qosmedix, and the cruelty-free and 100% vegan professional cosmetics line, OCC Makeup, our makeup artists were able to rock the runway at NYFW with these two amazing brands. No doubt, our team will be able to do the same at Brooklyn Fashion Week, which is coming up on October 3rd-6th, again with Qosmedix and OCC Makeup!

occ

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics was founded in New York City in 2004 by makeup artist David Klasfeld

-The line began with a pair of lip balms: “Tarred”, a true black color and “Feathered”, a pure white color

-OCC is internationally certified by PETA and is proudly 100% vegan and cruelty-free

-One of their best known products, Lip Tar, was launched at The Makeup Show: Los Angeles in 2009 and was such a hit that WWD declared it the “talk of the show”

qosmedix

Qosmedix was created by Stuart Herskovitz in 1987

-Qosmedix is known as the pioneer in disposable products for the cosmetic, spa and salon industries

-Herskovitz was walking through a department store when he noticed customers trying on a lipstick and placing it back into the display unit. It was then that he realized the need for disposables to reduce the risk of cross-contamination

Qosmedix products include mascara wands, lip gloss and lipstick applicators, sponges and puffs just to name a few. All items are designed to promote cleanliness and hygiene

OUR FAVORITE NY FASHION WEEK TRENDS!

FASHION

Monique Lhuillier

moniquelull

At Monique Lhuillier, warm vibrant colors ruled the runway! Inspired by “sheer elegance”, the collection is a modern take on evening wear. It was all in the details as gorgeous texture, intricate embellishment, splashes of tangerine and pops of fuchsia created looks that exuded effortless glamour.

Naeem Khan

naaem meanne

Inspired by both Spanish and Mexican cultures, Naeem Khan definitely channeled spicy flamenco dancers to Frida Kahlo in his new Spring 2014 Collection! Through his off-the-shoulder peasant blouses, boldly colored prints and hand-sewn embroidery, the Latin flair is obvious! Naeem Khan’s collection was definitely muy caliente.

Rebecca Taylor

rebecca taylor

Opposites attracted at Rebecca Taylor’s Spring 2014 collection! The usual Rebecca Taylor femininity was accompanied this season with a badass attitude. Leathers,moto-inspired construction and boyfriend blazers were paired with girly floral prints and sheer fabrics

Reem Acra

areem reem

Reem Acra brought the party at NYFW…the disco party that is. Every eye-catching look incorporated metallics, sexy cutouts, sheer fabric or all of the above! The result? Reem Acra gave us Saturday night fever, and we’re loving it!

NAILS

White Nails

nails nails2

White nails were one of the major manicure trends spotted on the runway. From designers such as Prabal Gurung to Tibi and Kate Spade and many in between, pale nails left their mark. The HONOR manicure is almost nude polish, “La Vie en Rose” by Deborah Lippmann and six rhinestones in a pyramid shape at the base of the nail. Cushnie et Ochs models rocked long and sharply pointed Rihanna-inspired nails made unique with silver Nail Veil nail rings in the center of all ten nails.

Moon Manicures

white nails

moon

Moon manicures were the second NYFW nail trend sure to soon be seen on every fashionista’s pretty fingers. We saw everything from the moon shape on the tips of the nails (Alice+Olivia) to the base, in bold colors like at Desigual or soft neutrals at Jenni Kayne. No matter how you do it, you can’t go wrong with the moon trend.

NYFW Roundup!

As one Carrie Bradshaw once said:Every year the women of New York leave the past behind and look forward to the future. This is known as Fashion Week”. While the week of excitement is winding down in our beloved city, we thought we would recap some of our favorite makeup looks and hair trends seen on the runway.

HAIR

Delicate Accessories

NYFW1

NYFW3

Oversized flower crowns are so last season! Take a cue from HONOR and think delicate hair accessories for spring 2014. HONOR added interest to low, wavy ponys by pinning romantic, dainty flowers into models’ manes for a touch of iridescence.

Brigitte Bardot-inspired

NYFW4

NYFW2

Several designers channeled ‘60s French film stars with Bardot-inspired hair. Locks were teased full of volume yet still ultra shiny at Tory Burch and gathered into side ponys at Pamella Roland. Très effortlessly sexy!

MAKEUP

White eye makeup

NYFW9a

NYFW7

White eye makeup was white hot on the runway this year! Several designers including Altazurra, Kate Spade and Tibi chose white eye shadow to make models’ eyes pop. We love the fresh idea and it goes to show that smokey eye makeup is not needed to make eyes stand out.

 Berry lips

NYFW9

NYFW8

It’s no surprise that berry lips were a major trend on the runway this week. Models at Nicole Miller flaunted the perfect plum shade. This fall, play with hues of raspberry, oxblood, or plum!

Glossy Lids

  NYFW6

NYFW5

Cushnie et Ochs brought all out edgy glamour to the runway with glossy pewter lids. We think this is the perfect way to take your smokey eye to the next level!

What were your favorite trends on the S/S 2014 runway?

New York Fashion Week 2012

–>
Last week fashion lovers descended upon the “Big Apple” for New York Fashion Week 2012. Throughout the glamorousweek, many designers took our breath away. In fact, the S/S shows almost made us want to skip fall entirely!

The Alice + Olivia collection was youthful and retro, reminiscent of the 50’s American dream. Sorbet colors, polka dots and peplum adorned poofy party dresses and bustiers. To keep with the retro feel, hair was parted deep on the side and sleeked back into low ponytails then completed with a jet-black cat eye. We also got a first look at the designer’s new purse line debuting next spring.

Zac Posen assembled an all-star cast to carry his looks down the runway. Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova (just to name a few!) were showstoppers in his Old Hollywood glamdesigns. Hems ranged from cocktail dresses to full-length, body huggingmermaid gowns in a rainbow of colors. Hair was styled in sleek, smooth waves. Kabuki for MAC created the makeup looks, emphasizing the model’s lashes with two layers of falsies.

Jason Wu’s avant-garde collection oozed sex appealand gave off a Fifty Shades of Grey vibe! The designer masterfully juxtaposed masculine and feminine by contrasting leather harnesses with feminine fabrics such as tulle andlace. Models wore African braids, which are tighter to the scalp than French braids then tucked under in the back. Looks were finished with strong brows, dark red lips and navy nails, achievable at home with OPI’s “Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees”.

VMA’s, FNO and New York Fashion Week..oh my!

So many events, so little time! Last night was not only the start of New York Fashion Week, but also Fashion’s Night Out and the VMAs!

At Chic Studios we are in a glamour-induced coma between the performances of Demi Lovato and Alicia Keys at the VMA’s and the models strutting down the runways of BCBGMAXAZRIA and Tadashi Shoji, yesterday was like a dream come true for beauty lovers like yours truly.

At the VMA’s, we LOVED these LOOKS:

Rihanna debuted her new ultra-short black pixie cut and paired it with a show stopping matte red lip.

Taylor Swift’s white suit wasn’t the only sleek thing she rocked last night. Her hair was smooth and glossy.

Holland Roden in a soft, wavy up-do with volume at the crown.

New York fashionistas had an array of stylishevents to attend last night at Fashion’s Night Out. Some of our favorites were at Beauty and Essex where curator and “Gold Girl” Lauren Kaminsky was on hand to showcase different jewelry collections (with special offers and cocktails!) and BCBG where shoppers were styled and entered to win a $1,000 BCBGMAXAZRIA wardrobe just by uploading their new stylish looks to Instagram.

Although every show is sure to impress, some of the events we are most looking forward to during Fashion Week include Rebecca Minkoff at Theatre (09/07), Diane von Furstenberg at Theatre (09/09), Reem Acra at Stage (09/10) and Rachel Zoe at Studio (09/12).

Get some beauty sleep fashionistas; this is just the beginning of New York Fashion Week! And the rest of the week promises to be just as glamorous.   Follow us on twitter this weekend for all our NYFW (New york Fashion Week) tweets from the RUNWAY and BACKSTAGE! www.twitter.com/chicstudiosnyc

HISTORY OF FASHION: New York Fashion Week

Chic Grads at NYFW 2011

The first New York Fashion Week was held back in 1943 and became a huge success among both industry insiders and ordinary people.

Chic Grads at NYFW 2011

At that time, journalists were not able to travel to Paris to see French fashion due to the second World War conditions. NYFW was organized to draw attention of people and insiders to “new” American fashion. Popular magazines such as Vogue featured not only French, but American designs at that time!

Today, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is perhaps the most well-known event held during New York Fashion Week, but not the only one. Many top-name designers show their collections at other venues, including Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs.

Chic Grads at NYFW 2011

Our favorite beauty experts will be traveling to NY to present the most creative hair and beauty looks for the upcoming season and we can’t wait to see what’s HOT right now!!
