SPRING CLEANING: CHIC’S GUIDE TO CLEANING OUT YOUR MAKEUP BAG

As we move into warmer temperatures and more colorful palettes…it’s important to also take care of your cosmetics arsenal. Here are a few tips to help you clean out your makeup bag:

BlogImage4

1. Separate your products.

Whether or not we like to admit it, bacteria loves to thrive on our faces, and one of the easiest ways to keep germs from spreading is to keep your brushes, face makeup, eye makeup and lipsticks/glosses all separate.

2. Don’t underestimate the power of rubbing alcohol.

Cleansing products are essential, but one of the simplest methods to clean products is with a bit of rubbing alcohol (and gauze pads). Dip lipsticks right into alcohol and lightly pat dry with gauze pads.

3. Clean out your pumps.

Flush bacteria out of pumps by running alcohol and warm water through until clear.

4. Know when to say good-bye.

If pressed powders, shadows or bronzers show any sign of oil markation…toss them. Consult with your beauty professional, but make sure to also throw away old mascaras and eyeliners every three months at least.

TRENDS: SPRING MAKEUP 2014

The frigid temperatures outside are just a reminder that spring is on the way! With that, comes the hottest new beauty trends for Spring 2014, as seen on the Fashion Week runway! Here are a few of our standouts and predictions for hot beauty trends this spring:

ORANGE LIPSTICK

1 Rag and Bone

The catwalks of Donna Karan, Prabal Gurung, and Rag & Bone all displayed orange lipstick, and we predict this neon pigment will be a pucker favorite in Spring 2014!

BLUE EYESHADOW

2 Marc Jacobs

Blue eyeshadow was a hit on the runways of Marc Jacobs and Naeen Khan. We adore this pop of color not usually donned in the spring, which was just enough to brighten up these looks without being too overdone!

WINGED LINER

3 Chanel

The always eye-catching winged liner was showcased at both the Chanel and Tracy Reese runway shows. The glam glitter at Chanel upgraded this look, and the classic look was achieved at Tracy Reese by using a thin cotton swab dipped in makeup remover to achieve that clean line!

GLOWING SKIN

4 Philip

Fresh and dewy is making a return this spring, and we couldn’t help notice that Philip Lim and J. Mendel are paving the way to the perfect example of this hot trend!

GOLD EYESHADOW

5 Dior

The Winter Olympics may be over, but both Dior and Jason Wu are going for the gold with their shining use of the hue during Fashion Week. The color highlights, while the metallic sheen is absolute perfection!

2014 NEW YORK FASHION WEEK – BEST OF BEAUTY

1We can’t help but be inspired by runway season, especially in our own beloved city. New York is a flurry with long-legged models, street style darlings and gorgeous makeup and hair looks. Check out our favorites during 2014 New York Fashion Week and let us know yours!

 Delp

Mirrored Mani at Delopozo

Pattie Yankee for Patricia Nail Lacquer created this metallic color exclusively for the Delpozo runway. We predict mirrored manicures will be one of the hottest nails trend this fall!

HerveDouble Cat Eye at Hervé Léger

Makeup artist Val Garland for Temptu created a “futuristic, robotic woman” with skin highlighted in just the right places and a double flick of eyeliner.

 Mara

Mara Hoffman Gold Tipped Braid

Whoever said braids were for lazy hair days? Stylist Nick Irwin for Catwalk by TIGI loosely braided models hair at mid-back then dipped the ends of the braid into super shiny gold hairspray. Talk about making an exit!

 Nicole

Two Toned Nails at Nicole Miller

The two toned nails spotted at Nicole Miller were right on trend for fall. Lead manicurist Katie Jane Hughes first used Butter London “Union Black Jack” followed by a matte topcoat. Next she brushed Butter London “Knees Up” from the cuticle almost to the tip.

 Jason

Jason Wu Sculpted Cheeks

“Softer glamour” was the vibe at Jason Wu. Makeup artist Diane Kendal went for very little makeup and instead focused on strong brows and super sculpted cheeks.

 Rebecca

Burgundy Lips at Rebecca Minkoff

The look at Rebecca Minkoff was “mod maven” thanks to bold burgundy lips done in Stila Stay All Day Lips in “Amore”. We have makeup artist Sarah Lucero to thank for perfecting and continuing the burgundy lip trend!
