NYFW Makeup Trends

Add-on week is fast approaching at ChicStudios! During these next couple days, our students learn everything from Fashion + Runway makeup and TV + Music Video business. For Fashion + Runway, they have to learn how to execute the designers’ vision all while making sure each look is cohesive and runway ready. Here are the top makeup trends that we noticed on the runway this season!

Graphic Liner

Prabal Gurung played with the theme of their collection — female power, to create strong beauty looks. Like the clothing, the makeup was striking as the models walked down the runway.

Plenty of Pigment

Splashes of color were displayed not only on the clothes, but on the models’ faces. Designer houses like Maison Margiela and Fashion East/Matty Bovan (pictured below) used every color in a palette to create expressive looks. Each look is personalized to the model making them unique and distinguishable.

Re-Imagined Black Eyeliner

The usual cat eye was transformed for the runway! For most designers, they chose to smoke them out– creating a very dramatic look which helped bring attention to the models’ eyes, like Libertine (pictured here).

Cherry Red and Berry Lips

The FW17 season wouldn’t be complete without these lip colors. Philipp Plein paired his intense smokey eyes with a cherry red lip — the perfect combination for a sultry look. Public School (pictured) kept their models’ looks very natural in the eyes and brows but added a subtle stain to the lips for color.

4/14: Spring Beauty Trends

1We can’t help but be inspired by runway season, especially in our own beloved city. New York is a flurry with long-legged models, street style darlings and gorgeous makeup and hair looks. Check out our favorites during 2014 New York Fashion Week and let us know yours!

Mirrored Mani at Delopozo

Pattie Yankee for Patricia Nail Lacquer created this metallic color exclusively for the Delpozo runway. We predict mirrored manicures will be one of the hottest nails trend this fall!

HerveDouble Cat Eye at Hervé Léger

Makeup artist Val Garland for Temptu created a “futuristic, robotic woman” with skin highlighted in just the right places and a double flick of eyeliner.

Mara Hoffman Gold Tipped Braid

Whoever said braids were for lazy hair days? Stylist Nick Irwin for Catwalk by TIGI loosely braided models hair at mid-back then dipped the ends of the braid into super shiny gold hairspray. Talk about making an exit!

Two Toned Nails at Nicole Miller

The two toned nails spotted at Nicole Miller were right on trend for fall. Lead manicurist Katie Jane Hughes first used Butter London “Union Black Jack” followed by a matte topcoat. Next she brushed Butter London “Knees Up” from the cuticle almost to the tip.

Jason Wu Sculpted Cheeks

“Softer glamour” was the vibe at Jason Wu. Makeup artist Diane Kendal went for very little makeup and instead focused on strong brows and super sculpted cheeks.

Burgundy Lips at Rebecca Minkoff

The look at Rebecca Minkoff was “mod maven” thanks to bold burgundy lips done in Stila Stay All Day Lips in “Amore”. We have makeup artist Sarah Lucero to thank for perfecting and continuing the burgundy lip trend!

New York Fashion Week is officially upon us! The snow and cold won’t be stopping fashionistas from flocking to the city to indulge in beautiful runway shows and extravagant fêtes. Here are the top designers we will especially be keeping an eye on.

A sketch from the upcoming collection

The inspiration for Fall 2014 is “graphic architectural detail and old world French Parisian couture techniques while also incorporating a dark romantic side.” Catch the show February 8th at THEATRE, 6 pm.

The inspiration behind the collection

Wild and untamed” is the inspiration behind the Hervé Leger Fall 2014 collection. We’re imagining dark, stormy colors and unconventional cuts! Catch the show February 8th at THEATRE, 2 pm.

For this designer, life is a journey! Mara has said she “drew inspiration from Northern Africa and all of the textiles, jewelry, and elements of nature picked up along the way.” Catch the show February 8th at SALON, 3 pm.

Although we are unsure of the inspiration behind the latest collection, we are still drooling over Reem Acra S/S 14 creations, inspired by Studio 54 and disco glamour. We’re holding our breath for what will walk down the runway for Fall 2014! Catch the show February 10th at SALON, 6 pm.

A sketch from the upcoming collection

It seems Rebecca Minkoff has a case of wanderlust. This season she found her self “inspired by our downtown-romantic muse indulging her wanderlust and spending a year abroad.” Catch the show February 7th at THEATRE, 3 pm.
